The funds raised from the 2015 “Read-a-thon” have significantly enriched our library’s fiction and non-fiction collection. Learners, with the help of the school community, annually take part in the Read-a-thon literacy program which promotes reading and an appreciation for the written word. Local authors, poets and publishers contribute towards this initiative by coming in to Normies and sharing their ‘stories’ with the learners.
Under the guidance of Mr. Dirksen, our Librarian, the Read-a-thon prize winners and learner librarians assist in selecting new books that increase the library’s existing collection. The library’s reading and literacy drive reflects the school’s vision by supporting reading, comprehension skills and, as a value-add, improving academic excellence. The 2016 “Read-a-thon” is scheduled from the 10 – 26 August.
A reading nation is a successful nation!
