A Celebration of Excellence
On the 8th December, Norman Henshilwood held its annual celebration of excellence and what a celebration it was! The message of the evening that really shone through was that our learners have truly embraced excellence, and the vast amount of awards handed over was most certainly a testament to this fact.
Highlights of the evening included the Academic Top 10, bronze, silver and gold awards for each subject, sports awards, honours awards and the creative essay read by Zoe Carelse in Grade 10.
We also said good-bye to our two very special
exchange students; Jan Kasper form Germany and Dafne De Souza from Brazil. Another highlight was seeing all the parents getting involved in a game of “Simon Says” led by Mr. Millar’s enthusiastic dancing on stage.
The evening came to an end with the announcement of the prestigious Special Awards which included the Principal’s Award. This award is issued to the one learner who truly upholds the image of the school.
The learner who shows integrity and rejects mediocrity on all levels, the learner who displays authenticity and has the courage or “guts” to take the risks needed to get to the top, and lastly, the one who embraces excellence in every area. The recipient of the 2011 Principal’s award, who has truly met all these criteria, was Courtney Williams in grade 10.
The school would like to congratulate all the learners who received awards, and we encourage you to keep pushing against the limits of mediocrity. We would also like to thank all the governing body members and the staff involved in making the evening a memorable one.
