Normies has an enrolment of 1 085 learners and a team of high quality staff, passionate about excellence in all spheres and committed to upholding the ethos of the school.

The mission of Norman Henshilwood High is to inspire learners to realise their potential through educational journeys built on growing tradition, innovation, diversity and excellence.

Our vision is to foster academic excellence and develop social and extra-curricular growth, which challenges learners and members of staff to realize their full potential in a secure and caring environment, with the support of the community.

Building on 48 years of excellence, Norman Henshilwood High School is seeking visionary leaders who are well qualified and experienced in educating teenage boys and girls. The new principal and deputy principal will work with the Board of Governors to develop and drive the strategic vision of the school within the ever-changing local, national and international context; and in particular, within the South African context of transformation.

  • Have a successful track record in strategic planning and prioritising and a passion for educational excellence and inclusivity.
  • Be a respected leader with an eye for recruiting and retaining exceptional members of Staff.
  • Be an expert driver of the curriculum, both overt and hidden, as well as driving the e-Curriculum.
  • Use action research to drive school improvement strategies, especially academic and e-learning.
  • Use quarterly results to diagnose areas for improvement across the school.
  • Be policy driven at all levels of education, especially within a constitutional and legislative framework.
  • Have a proven record in educational leadership and financial management.
  • Have diplomatic, fair and inclusive interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the cultural and emotional intelligence as well as communicative style to allow for the fostering of an inclusive school environment in which relationships with a wide range of stakeholders (Board of Governors, the WCED, learners, parents, staff) are nurtured.

Additionally, Normies is seeking a leader who will be the source of energy and inspiration to all, with the ability to build functioning processes across the school. This appointment will present the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to balance tradition and past success with innovation and thought leadership, to keep what is good and valued and to add that which is new and necessary, so as to maintain the school’s reputation for excellence.
